What is the basis of the Green Path Diagnostic, or as I like to call it, Change that Sticks?
That basis, or Lego plate, is the combined force of Bloom’s Cognitive Taxonomy and my Proficiency Taxonomy, as inspired by Gloria Gery. But to really see where to start, we have to understand the key differences between knowledge and competency, and how each affects us without the other.
We are currently exploring the structurally sound learning journey in Lego Learning Part 1, and next week’s Lego Learning Part 2. Those build on prior content about each axis. Look at these archived posts to learn the underpinnings, or Lego plate, for our current learning journey!
Making Change Stick
In whatever skill we are trying to improve in our team or organization, we tend to measure reasoning power because we assume that execution power automatically follows. We bias knowledge - the ability to reason about the skill over proficiency - the ability to execute the skill.
Moving from "Faking It" to "Making It"
For two decades I held a rigid belief that every learning experience must go through the Bloom’s Cognitive Taxonomy lens. And to that credit, the clarity and classification is a wonderful tool for codifying the learning process across many stakeholders.
